7 TYPES OF YOGA PRACTICES

Interested in taking up yoga, but not sure where to start? Here is a brief description on different yoga practices to help you find the best style for you.
Anurasaanurasa
One of the newest yoga practices is anurasa yoga. It is based on the belief that we are all filled with an intrinsic goodness and uses the physical practice of yoga to help open the heart and let inner goodness come through. Classes are very demanding for the body and the mind.

Bikram
This style of yoga was developed about 30 years ago. Classes are held in artificially heated rooms, so you will sweat as you work through a series of 26 poses.

Ashtanga
Ashtanga is a demanding style of yoga that follows a specific sequence of postures. Each style links every movement to a breath. With ashtanga, the exact same poses are performed in the same order. This is a hot, sweaty and physically demanding practice.

Hatha
This kind of yoga is a generic term that refers to any type of yoga that teaches physical postures. This type of yoga is a gentle introduction to the most basic yoga postures and will likely leave you feeling longer and more flexible.

Vinyasa
Vinyasa yoga is known for fluid and intensive movements. Every vinyasa class is different, so if you like shaking things up and want to test your physical limits, you will enjoy this.

Iyengar
This is a very meticulous style of yoga that focuses on finding the proper alignment in a pose. There isnt much jumping around, therefore you wont get your heart rate up, but youll experience great physical and mental transformation.

Restorative
Restorative yoga is a great way to relax. Blankets and blocks are used to prop students in passive poses so that the body can experience the benefits of a pose without having to use too much effort.
